P.E.I. Potato Packers Struggle to Keep Employees On the Job

In the wake of suspended Prince Edward Island potato exports to the U.S. due to the discovery of potato wart in two P.E.I. fields, many packers are working at a fraction of their normal capacity, while some have shut down entirely. 

At Mid Isle Farms in Albany, P.E.I., 60 per cent of their sales so far this year were to the U.S. and they were expecting that to continue. Mid Isle usually has between 27 and 30 people on the production line, and they are now down to 17 or 18.
