Potatoes USA announced today that imports of all potatoes and potato products increased 3.8% in volume for fiscal year 2018 (July 2017 – June 2018). This increase in volume was seen in dehydrated potatoes (+14.5%), frozen (+9%) and chips (+16.7%). Fresh and seed saw declines of 6.8% and 7.4% respectively.
The value of imports also increased 9.4% to $1,371,944,244. The increase in value was seen in all products, except seed which was down 2.5%. Value increases by products include: dehydrated potatoes were + 7.5%, fresh +4.7%, frozen +12.2% and chips +15.5%. The majority of the increase in dehy imports came from Mexico, Germany and Canada. The majority of fresh and frozen imports continue to come from Canada.
