Last week, NPC VP of Legislative Affairs Dean Gibson and NPC CEO Kam Quarles were in Sun Valley, Idaho, at the Idaho Grower Shippers Association Annual Meeting. During that meeting, they had the chance to talk with leaders about several key industry priorities.
On Wednesday, Kam shared a Mexico panel discussion with Kim Breshears of Potatoes USA, Ross Johnson of the Idaho Potato Commission, and moderator Shawn Boyle, President and CEO of IGSA. They talked about the growth of that market since its opening and some of the challenges in ensuring that it remains open, recognizing that there are still competitors in Mexico who would like it returned to being a monopoly with only domestic product available.
During the Friday general session, Kam addressed a number of major issues for the industry, including Japan market access, the upcoming Presidential election, the Farm Bill, and the industry’s successful $50 million surplus commodity purchase request recently approved by USDA.
