USDA’s Agricultural Research Service (ARS) awarded funding for 23 research proposals totaling nearly $1.2 million. Proposals address numerous potato diseases, insect pests, and post-harvest disorders of critical concern to potato-producing states and the national potato industry. The list of approved projects is available here.

Over the past three decades, Congress – at the request of the National Potato Council and state partners – has appropriated funds to ARS to help solve specific production and disease problems of the U.S. potato industry. Each project demonstrates cooperative research between USDA-ARS researchers and partners at state agricultural experiment stations and other institutions with active potato research programs. NPC appreciates the time commitment of our volunteers who assisted in the review process: Scott Fenters (Ore.), Trey Jones (Colo.), John Nordgaard (N.D.), and Chris Hopkins (N.C.).
