The World Potato Congress is extremely pleased to present its third 2022 webinar on March 29 at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Standard time (USA/Canada).
Presentation Outline
For potatoes, this is largely focused on preventing late blight caused by Phytophthora infestans, which continues to be the most economically destructive disease of Irish potato crops. As the Irish climate is mild and damp and as such highly conducive to the development of late blight, Irish potato crops are often at a high risk of disease development. To counter this disease control programmes have become heavily reliant on fungicide inputs. However increased restrictions on fungicide usage, coupled with the development of resistance to key fungicides in specific P. infestans lineages have increased the need to ensure integrated pest management strategies are deployed for the control of late blight. In this webinar Steven will outline what this specifically means for the current and future control of late blight in Ireland.
Dr. Steven Kildea is a senior researcher in Teagasc, the Irish Agricultural and Food Development, where he oversees the development of disease control strategies for Irish cereal and potato crops.
