Precision Agriculture has been a hot topic for years. Back in March of 2005, Potato Country had Francis J. Pierce on the cover to talk about the latest developments. At the time he was the director of the Center for Precision Agricultural Systems, part of the Washington State University Advanced Technology Initiative.
He was very aware of the technology that was just around the corner, including improvements like GPS guidance of equipment and instant weather information to your pocket. At the time, these technologies were available, but Pierce knew they would only improve over time. Today, many growers probably can’t remember a time when they weren’t using these tools. It’s always interesting to see how quickly these ideas were incorporated into the norm.
